Whether you want to move to Mumbai, Pune is calling your name, or you’ve been offered your ideal job a thousand miles away, there are a few things you should consider before moving to a new location. You’ve decided to pack your belongings and relocate, but you won’t be able to board the plane until you’ve completed the following seven tasks.
1. Living expenses
When it comes to expenses, each city may not differ much from the next, but knowing your budget will help you settle down easily in your new area. So do some research on housing, transportation, healthcare, food pricing, and so on to get a sense of how much you’re likely to spend. If you know someone who lives in the area where you are relocating, it won’t harm to ask them for first-hand information.
2. Adaptability
It is always preferable to know ahead of time whether you will be able to survive in the new city. If you have a job lined up, consider how your new pay will effect your daily budget and whether you will be able to save money. Living expenditures in a new place may be higher at times, and even if your salary has improved, you may need to tighten your belt. If you do not yet have a job and intend to relocate to a new place using only your funds, it is critical that you determine how long your savings will last before you find work.
3. Job Opportunities
If you do not have a job lined up, it is best to investigate work opportunities in the new city before you relocate. Find out what types of occupations are often available in the city, whether full-time or part-time, and whether they are suited for you. You might also prepare a list of area businesses and their locations, and if you find something that looks promising, apply before you move. It would also help if you looked for homes in the same area where you want to work.
4. Learn about your new company
When you get a job in a new place, research the company to learn about its work ethics, facilities, what is expected of you, and work/life balance. When relocating for a job, find out if they offer relocation advantages such as moving charges and housing assistance.
5. Networking possibilities
Moving to a new location is much easier if you have a strong network of friends, family, and acquaintances nearby. If none are available in your area, contact past and present friends and acquaintances for assistance in making social or professional contacts. It may be challenging at first, but if you have an open mind, you will find your own pals.
6. Know the locale
Sometimes you only get to know a place after living there for a long, but you might also do some preliminary study before moving in. With information on most locations now available online, you may simply learn a variety of things about the neighborhood in which you intend to live. You may look at whether the area is residential or commercial, safe or dangerous, whether it has parks or not, and what kinds of markets, bars, and pubs are there. If possible, travel there and stay at an Airbnb for a day or two to get a sense of the neighborhood.
7. Check out public transport :
If you intend to drive your own car, find out what parking and storage options are available. However, if you opt to use public transit, be sure you know what kind of transportation is available. In addition, do some research on which bus or train lines are the most reliable and how frequently they run in a specific neighborhood. You will not want to stay somewhere where there is no public transportation, so your research will be really beneficial.
